This is the cutest baby. I just love Beverly! I encourage anyone looking for a horse to check out the horses available for adoption from the Animali Farm. I go to this site regularly just to "browse" for horses. The are a non-profit horse rescue that focuses on horses from Premarin ranches. Premarin is a drug which is used to treat symptoms of menopause. It is made from pregnant mare urine. In 2003, the Premarin ranches started losing their contracts and there was an plenty of horses available for adoption. Most are draft crosses, but they have Appaloosas, Quarter Horses, and Canadian Sporthorses. This little Beverly caught my eye. She is only $1550 and that includes coggins and shipping. What a bargain for this cute girl! A great example of some of the horses available from a wonderful rescue group. Here is hoping that Beverly finds the perfect home.

When I first heard about HRT drugs, I thought it was kind of neat that they came from pregnant mare's urine. Then when I heard that the foal born of that pregnancy wasn't wanted, I was shocked and saddened.
I'm glad that there are organizations seeking to take these foals in, but I'm very puzzled about why some arrangement can't be made to collect urine from pregnant mares whose offspring are very much wanted.

It's not just that the foals are not wanted. It's also, that the mares are tied in stalls with the collection bags attached to them 24-7. Not much of a life for a horse.
Beverly looks like a sweet horse.
Beverly Update---She was adopted by a woman named "Lydia" from Missouri. Sounds like this cute little filly found a good home. I emailed the Animali Farm just to let Lydia know her new girl was featured on my blog. I hope sje shares photos and stories so we can all enjoy watching little Beverly grow into an amazing horse.
