Out with the Girls

Maddy is a new horse. This week I have seen amazing progress. She is working well in the arena, she is calm outside, and two days ago she returned to her "gang." She is out with the mares again and so happy. I thought there would be some squabbling, but she walked out there and went right back to being Classy's best bud and Novi's nemesis.
I quit giving her ACE last Thursday and best of all, I hopped on her today and worked on some one rein stops and lateral flexion. It felt so good to ride my horse. I can't even put it into words. My farrier, Andrew Maris, did her shoes today and she behaved herself and didn't pull back...much:-). Still need to work on that. She gets a little tense from the sound of hammering, but Andrew said "she is on the verge of being a great horse." That means a lot to me because when I first got her, Andrew didn't even want to work on her. The sweat and tears are starting to pay off.

I am SO happy to hear that. I have read through most of your posts over the last year and it has been a challenging year for you and your mare. Here's to a spring of new beginnings!

It is hard for me to get used to seeing horses with blankets but I guess it is necessary if they are in heated barns and stalls. Nice photography.

Sometimes, being with another horse fixes so much frustration! I'm so glad you got to ride your horse again: in the way you're used to!

Hip hip horray! It must be party time because this sure is cause for celebration. I am so relieved to hear some good news.

I knew that Maddy had it in her and that she would get over being a goof ball from being cooped up. And the farrier thing they learn with time and reassurance. Lots of good stuff here!!

I'm so happy for you. What a long dry spell without riding. I'm trying to figure out how all those mares stay together without ripping each other's blankets. ;)

It's amazing what a day with the girls can do for one's personality, isn't it? I know I'm looking forward to our all girl weekend on the road!

Do you ever wonder what Maddie thinks happened over the last six months? To go back to her gang and have no squabling is SO wonderful, but not nearly as fantastic and you gettin on her again.

So, so happy for you!
