Sad news...Parkland Stable Fire

I was working tonight at my ABC station in Portland and saw this come down from Seattle.

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. -- Fifteen horses have died in a fire that broke out at a stable near Parkland on Thursday night.

Officials said a 2-alarm fire broke out at Eckstein Stables, LLC in the 13100 block of Bingham Avenue East just before 7 p.m., causing a part of the structure to collapse.

No one was injured aside from the killed horses which were being boarded there.

The owner of the stable said as soon as a heat detector sounded the alarm at 6:56 p.m., fire crews rushed to the scene. The nearest station was just a mile down the road, but by the time they arrived all 15 horses had died.

"This is really hard. This is really hard and I've got a lot of people I've got to explain this to," stable owner Tom Eckstein said.

"Horrible, it's horrible. I can't believe it. It's got to be a horrible way to go," said Jessica Seal.

One by one, owners of the horses rushed over to the barn where they had boarded their horses.

Missy Ashbrook lost her horse, Uno.

"He was such a big part of our lives. I just can't process right now that he's gone," she said.

Kristal Derochey lost two of her beloved animals.

"My horses just died. The whole barn went up in flames and nobody made it out," she said.

The stable was packed to the rafters with hay. Even the tiniest spark could have set the whole building ablaze.

Firefighters said they may never know the exact case of the fire, and the news is unsettling for the grief-stricken horse owners. For them, losing their horse is not unlike losing a family member.

"We built our whole life around our horse," Ashbrook said.

Here is a link to the story. If you want to watch a video story, here is a link. It was hard to watch that one.

This is such horrible news. My friends Horse was one of those killed. I was also thinking of moving my horse to this barn. It was such a fun, welcoming place with happy horses. It's hard to believe this could happen.

This is one of my biggest fears. with a barn fire it seems to go up so fast, there is so little time to get anyone out.
This is so sad, I feel for the owners and the horses. What a horrible way to die.

Just A Horse

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a horse" or, "that's a lot of money for "just a horse".

They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a horse".

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a horse".

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a horse", but I did not feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a horse" and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a horse" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too think it's "just a horse" then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend", "just a sunrise" or "just a promise".

"Just a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy.

"Just a horse" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a horse" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a horse" but a thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman".

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a horse" just smile, because they "just" don't understand.

awww! that is sooo sad!!!!

I can't imagine the anger and anguish those horse owners are feeling right now.

What an unecessary tragedy!

It was a portable heater in a tack room that caused this fire. They think the heater was knocked over by a horse kicking the wall.

A friend of mine gave lessons to the girl with two horses. Her family is devestated.

My condolences to everyone. This would be a very hard thing. However, it is never a good idea to store hay in the same barn as the horses. Boarders should watch for this kind of danger in their own barns.

I ask myself "how the hell do you dodge an world of warcraft gold attack you can't even SEE?"Melee DPSers in your raid are playing very badly, increasing the damage to your tank and wow power leveling decreasing their own damage output. Mobs do dodge from behind, but they don't parry or block. Simply fighting from behind world of warcraft gold a mob results in an increase of 5% in your DPS on most mobs because you cut cheap wow gold parry out, plus you avoid giving the mob the 'next world of warcraft gold swing is 50% faster' that they get on a successful parry.Don't forget that wow powerleveling some even get BONUS attacks when they parry. I can't tell you how many times we wiped on Gruul because of hateful world of warcraft gold strikes...Melee DPS should always be behind mobs as much as possible in raids.I've learned that attacking players from the back means they can't block, parry, or dodge. Is this the same with wow power leveling mobs? It's supposed to be the case, however I'm not sure if it always works that way in practice.i have never heard world of warcraft gold anything about hitting a player from behind making it so they cant cheap wow gold dodge or parry,The same applies world of warcraft gold to NPCs. The only time positioning matters is that the target needs to be in front of you, and some rogue and druid catform abilities wow power leveling require you to be either behind or in front of your target.Players CANNOT Dodge block or parry attacks that come from behind them.NPCS CANNONT BLOCK OR PARRY attacks that world of warcraft gold come from behind them.NPCS CAN dodge attacks from behind BUT players cannot.this is why in a raid all melee classes wow gold kaufen need to attack from behind the boss in order to reduce the amount of parries.I understand that world of warcraft gold this forum is for beginners.but when a beginner asks a question, please understand what you are talking about before wow powerleveling you spread misinformation.keep in mind that you can MISS from all directions. So if you are a rogue and you ambush a player, they dofus kamas wont BLOCK it, but you can MISS your attack.

You can wow gold understand, i'm sure, how easy it was to confuse you two. At least world of warcraft gold you sound like you're joking, the other guy was serious! This Also you have no idea if it will get more armor/energy The new rocket cluster or the yamato gun? you buy wow gold gotta choose. Either way they still suck, why build one wow po of them? When I can literally build x4 wraiths. 80 dps per sec versus 25 dps per 25 sec. Figure out the math.Battlecruiser wow or and Carrier need some help. They are destroyed easily even with support.in raids melee classes never go behind there targets so i assume there is no such thing world of warcraft gold and its the same for mobs.Yes, players can block parry or dodge attacks from behind. Even against a rogue ambushing from buy wow gold stealth that the player wasn't even aware that they were there.but am I going to have some fun wow gold testing out the new rogue tree.

What do you say? That is so traggic, that all those people had to go through that.

I would be freaked out if that happened to our horses or even to someone elses.

There should be a safety gate system that opens when an alarm is triggered.

I hope they all recieve grace to get through it.

simply horrible news.
