Attacked!

After our Parelli lesson on Sunday, I took Joni over to one of my old haunts, Whipple Creek Equestrian Park. When I first got back into riding seven years ago after a long hiatus, I leased a horse next to the park. I would ride every Thursday and I found myself falling in love with horses all over again. The park has a lot of good memories and I've been wanting to ride Maddy there. Sunday I had the chance to fulfill a little dream of mine. Little did I know, Clark County Vector Control has been slacking and the trails were still muddy, creating the perfect habitat for swarms of mosquitoes. Those nasty little things really got us. We cut our ride short and got the heck out of there, but not before poor Maddy was just mauled. I feel so bad for my bumpy girl.

Itchy! The only thing I've found that keeps mosquitos at bay - ours are voracious - is Mosquito Halt - it's very nasty and poisonous stuff but it works.

SKEETERS!! Aughhh - they are the worst, those and horse/deer flies!!! I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy that trail the way you had envisioned, hopefully once it dries up, you'll be able to take Maddy back out without being swarmed.

Yikes! That's a lot of bites. I love that dorsal stripe, though.

I saw a slogan that said "Mosquitos are an insect that makes you appreciate flies more".

Sorry your return to Whipple Creek wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Maybe you can try it again later in the season.

I miss those trails as I too have many happy memories there! The one hill (the one with the sand pile) I nicknamed the "run hill" because I liked to run full blast up it and then yell "WOO HOO" at the top.......LOVED IT!

Ouchers. I agree with Kate about the Mosquito Halt.

I simply cannot ride my guys in our woods without a full suit of bug armor on them--a riding flysheet and fly mask. The mosquitoes and deerflies are horrible. And we have the big B52 horse flies too.

Summertime, and the living is buggy!!
