Hunting Season

Time to dig out all the orange...it is hunting season again in Oregon. Maddy wears her Equine Protectavest from Mac Mountain Tack in Maine. I have on orange (more like "cantaloupe") helmet cover I put on and I usually wear an orange jacket, but it was so hot today. If you need any great horse orange, check out Mac Mountain Tack. She is a really cool lady with really great stuff. I don't think you can ever have too much orange this time of year. I was thinking of getting some orange velcro and going around her medicine boots. I don't mind looking crazy to be safe.

Maddy and I did a beautiful, short ride before work. I love rides like the one today, very relaxed, the sun felt so good, but that hint of Fall was in the air. Tomorrow...Kacy from AllHorseStuff moves in. I am very excited to have my riding buddy back.

Do you hear gunshots out there during hunting season?

HI Jules!!!
I jsut got Wa a plastic vest for her neck $1.99. It'll work till I "NEED" one like yours!
My quater sheet is striped too...but this HOT weather we are having...can't use it yet!

Okay..on the way to move some stuff in...so nervious...but hopeful.
I have moved so many times..I don't trust myself with decisions anymore.I trust you though..and Maddy looks better than ever. It is the testimony I need!

Can't wait to ride some trails decked in the ORANGE- see me- stuff too!

Maddy looks very colorful. You can't have enough orange at this time of year. Some of those guys are trigger happy, and will shoot at anything that moves.

I'll check out that store, thanks for the tip. We have lots of hunters around here and they hunt right behind our property.

I went to Oregon for the first time in my life to the Parelli Celebration in Redmond this summer. I can only imagine how beautiful trail riding is there at this time of the year...
Good for you!

i remember those days, the days when you heard gunshots and saw hunters out. i had this hunter once give me an orange vest, so i wouldn't get shot! i still have it, what a nice gesture. not that it's necessary in this country.

I didn't realize that Wa and Maddie will be "roommates"!
How great for both of you.

I have bright pink quarter sheets and a safety vest for myself.

Someone I talked to suggested that during deer hunting season you should never, never wear anything white, and that includes a saddle pad. (White tailed deer here in NJ.)

You can also add a strap of bells to your horse as well. Might make some hunters annoyed as it might scare the deer, but better that than getting shot at and it does warn them that something is coming down the trail.

Ooooh! I just thought of something. They do make electric orange duct tape. You could use that on the boots.

Good reminder post! Even though we ride in a state park for our trail rides, there is hunting all around it, so I plan on becoming VISIBLE!
I read on Kac's blog about her joining you at this barn. It looks fabulous! Glad you guys will get the chance to be fellow boarders once again. The barn itself looks to die for, so HOORAY!!! How's Maddy! We have a gelding at my barn who could be her twin (except for the obvious gender difference :) and I always think of Maddy when I see him! Happy fall riding Jules!
Cheers!
