A compliment

The coolest thing has been happening when I go to get Maddy out of the pasture. I go down to where ever she is and I stop a few feet from her. She walks up to me, I give her a scratch and turn and start walking up to the gate and she follows. Today she walked next to me and then trotted up to the gate and waited for me to catch up. It was really cool...like one of the best compliments your horse could give you. "It is about time you showed up, I want to go ride."

That is a great compliment to get from your horse. Maddy must be very happy to have you as a rider and partner.

I love it when my mare does that too. My daughter's gelding is always getting between us because he wants all of the attention. I like you blog. Hopped over from PG.

Sweeet!
That is very nice and I know it makes your heart smile.
Lately, my mare has been very animated when I arrive on the scene as well; Nickers and such..it feels like she may be happy to see me!

Thank you for your comment. The movie was great and I recommend it.

I too have a horse that is happy to do something with me. When I go to the pasture with her halter and lead I yell "Berlin, do you want to go for a ride?" ....and 99% of the time she canters to me, circles once and lets me catch her. It's so sweet, as when I call her name, no other horse raises their head...just her. They are so special....

Wow! That's great! I just get happy when Jackson let's me go right up to him and get him, but it usually involves a walk! He NEVER comes to me. Oh that's a lie. He comes if I go out and shake a feed bucket...does that count? grin..

I love it when the horses show their interest and own desire to do things... Arwen has always been into "giving me the look", which depending on the intensity, either means she wants food, company or (add a few stamping feet...) it's time to head OUT! Sahara on the other hand is a talking horse. She greets us every time we've been away and it's the real kind of "hey guys, where have you been? We've missed you!" signal. Her "You'd better give us more food!" signal is way stronger, and when Sahara feels the urge to go stretch her legs, she starts nodding the rest of the flock into a cantering circle. After all, that should give Ishtar the cue! :-)

What is Maddy's role in a horse group/together with other horses?

It sounds like you and Maddy are really doing great. I'm glad you're getting far on the other side of the hard times.

Hope you and yours had a great Thanksgiving!

Boy, I wish my horse did that, lol! Actually, he kind of does, that is what is so whacky about his catching issue. Walking away always brings on that curiosity and takes the pressure off of you catching them- they think they are catching you! :) He'll usually come down to me or at least follow me. It's just getting my boy halter that becomes tricky.
